2019 Today’s Game Era ballot will include Harold Baines, Albert Belle, Joe Carter, Will Clark, Orel Hershiser, Davey Johnson, Charlie Manuel, Lou Piniella, Lee Smith and George Steinbrenner. The ballot will be voted on during the Baseball Winter Meetings on Dec. 10.

Lance McCullers of the Astros will miss the entire 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

The Giants have hired Farhan Zaidi away from the Dodgers to be their President of Baseball Operations. He got a 5 year contract.

Dansby Swanson of the Braves underwent wrist surgery but will be fully ready by Spring Training.

Gary Sanchez of the Yankees will undergo surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder this off-season. The timeline for recovery is about three months.

Joe Mauer has announced he will retire from MLB. He spent his entire 15 year career with the Twins. He was a 6 time All-Star, won 5 Silver Sluggers and 3 Gold Gloves, was a 3 time batting champ and was the 2009 AL MVP. Mauer was selected by the Twins as the first overall pick of the 2001 MLB Draft.

TRANSACTIONS

The Rays have acquired C Mike Zunino, OF Guillermo Heredia and minor league LHP Michael Plassmeyer from the Mariners. The Mariners will receive OF Mallex Smith and minor league OF Jake Fraley.

The Pirates resigned 3B Jung Ho Kang to a 1 year/$3 million contract plus performance bonuses.

The Rays have signed OF Jake Smolinski to a minor league deal with a Spring Training invite.

RUMORS

The Orioles will be open to moving any and all veterans as they rebuild.

The Yankees are interested in the Indians RHP Corey Kluber.

The Reds showing interest in starting pitchers, Patrick Corbin and J.A. Happ are among the starters they like.

The Tigers are looking at free agent shortstops with focus on 1 year deals and have interest in Freddy Galvis, Adeiny Hechavarria and Jordy Mercer.

The Yankees are fully expected to trade RHP Sonny Gray this off-season.

The D-Backs are willing to listen on anyone, including RHP Zack Greinke and 1B Paul Goldschmidt.

The Cardinals are looking at free agent closers and #1 on the list in RHP Craig Kimbrel. They are also looking at LHP Andrew Miller.

LHP J.A. Happ has drawn interest from Blue Jays, Yankees, White Sox, Twins, as well as the Reds.

The Dodgers are showing early interest in free agent 2B D.J. LeMahieu.

C Robinson Chirinos has drawn interest from Braves and Twins.

The White Sox are active in the starting pitcher market and have interest with LHP Patrick Corbin.

The Braves have a strong offer on the table for Marlins C J.T. Realmuto.

The Mets have interest in LHP Andrew Miller.

The Yankees are among the teams that have spoken to the Mariners about LHP James Paxton.

The Phillies interested in RHP Craig Kimbrel.

C Yasmani Grandal has drawn interest from Mets and Astros.

The Cubs are open to trading 3B Kris Bryant.
