Day 5 Game 1 Torrance, CA (4) vs. Tallahassee, FL (9)

Torrance started the game right getting a leadoff walk from Jack Salmon who then hustled all the way to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a sac fly from Ben Madrano. Tallahassee fired right back and started the scoring with an RBI single from Argene Lynn. Cooper Smith also added a high chopper infield RBI single. Tallahassee lead 3-1 after 1 inning. In the 3rd inning Torrance just a run back in what I could only describe as a little league play, interesting base running and the ball being thrown all around the diamond. Torrance had a chance in the 4th inning to tie the game up but stranded a couple of runners. Jack Sturgis led off the 4th with a double into left center and later scored on a wild pitch. Tallahassee added a few more runs that inning to lead 6-2. Tallahassee added more runs in the 6th inning with an RBI singles from Hayden Kelley and Landon Shackelford. Torrance as they have done all tournament long didn’t quit. They added a couple runs in the 7th inning, one coming on a Tanner Barbosa sac fly. Ultimately Tallahassee won the game and advanced into the quarterfinals.

Denver City got on the board first in the 3rd inning and it started with an Israel Gandara bunt single and reached second as the throw went down the right field line. He later scored on an RJ Hurtado RBI single. Denver City added to their lead in the 4th inning with an RBI groundout from Mario Sanchez. Denver City never had a big inning, but they kept adding to their lead by scoring another run in the 6th inning. Albany had quiet bats all day but made it a game in the 7th inning. Avery Schmitz reached on with a single to center and Nolan Rueter got hit by a pitch. Breydan Eiynck reached on base with a swinging bunt and the throw went down the third base line which allowed 2 runs to score and Eiynck got all the way to third. The next pitch was a wild pitch and the catcher Erlan Lozano was able to get the ball quickly to Mario Sanchez who got the tag down just in time. It was a bang bang play that could have gone either way. Very exciting end to the game.

Players of the Game

Albany: Breyden Eiynck (1B) 3-3

Denver City: Israel Gandara (2B) 2-2, 1 run

Day 5 Game 4 K-W-R-L, WA (11) vs. Longview, WA (7)

Big time tonight for KWRL, they have to win to advance to the quarterfinals. They got the start they hoped for scoring 4 runs in the 2nd inning, Landen Krausse had an RBI single and the other 3 came on bases loaded walks. More of the same for KWRL in the 3rd inning as they add another run on a bases loaded walk. Longview pitchers had trouble finding the strike zone tonight. A grounder to short with the infield in creates a footrace to the bag for an out but 2 runs score on the play giving KWRL the 7-0 lead. Longview finally broke up the shutout as Jordan Kangas scored from second on a throwing error. In the 5th inning Longview continued to cut into KWRL lead on a Kangas RBI single. In the 6th inning KWRL once again scored on a bases loaded walk from Longview and added 2 runs as Mike Goode beat out a ground ball to third base. Longview didn’t go away and scored 4 runs in the 6th inning, 2 coming on a Kangas single to center field. Longview scored in the 7th inning on a Cole Hopper RBI single making it a 11-7 game. Longview’s rally came up short and they will be the #3 seed and with the win KWRL takes the #2 seed.

Players of the Game

K-W-R-L: Mike Goode (CF, P) 1 2/3 innings in relief, 3 K’s, 2-2, 2B, 2 BB, 3 runs, 2 RBI’s
