Day 1 Game 1 Concord, NH (6) vs. Torrance, CA (4)
Concord got on the board first by scoring a run on a wild pitch then a bloop RBI single from Tyler Wright. They added 1 more run on a botched pick off play. Torrance came right back and scored their first run on a wild pitch also. They added 1 more run on an RBI groundout from Ben Madrano. Trevor Smith makes it a 2 run game with an RBI single in the 2nd inning. In the 3rd inning Concord scored 1 run as Ryan Kastle scored from second on an infield single from Kevin McDonough. In the bottom of the 3rd Torrance score another run on another RBI groundout from Ben Madrano. Concord makes it a 3 run game as Nate Vandersosa scores on an RBI double from Tyler Wright. Luke Richardson scores for Torrance on a passed ball to make it a 6-4 ballgame. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th Tanner Barbosa came up to bat as the tying run and hit a ball that would have tied the game up if it stayed fair. It was quite a shot. Concord won the game 6-4 and they no hit Torrance, Jonah Wachter 5 2/3 and Tyler Wright 1 1/3. The score could have been a lot worse, but Torrance battled all the way to the last out.
Players of the Game
Concord: Jonah Wachter (P) 5 2/3 no hit innings, 2 K’s.
Torrance: Jack Salmon (SS) HBP, SB, 1 run
Day 1 Game 2 New Castle, IN (1) vs. Denver City, TX (11)
Denver City scored early and often as they score in all 5 innings they played. New Castle actually outhit Denver City 6-4 but all that really matters is the score. New Castle will need to play better defense in order to win. I believe they can and will.
Players of the Game
New Castle: Miles Mann (1B) 2-2
Denver City: Fernny Vega (P) 5 innings, 9 K’s
Day 1 Game 3 Kelso, WA (2) vs. Tallahassee, FL (12)
Kelso opened up the scoring on an RBI single from Masyn Allison in the 1st inning but Tallahassee roared right back scoring 7 runs and 4 of them came from Argene Lynn as he deposited the first pitch he saw into the left field bullpen for a grand slam. In the 2nd inning Lynn robbed Seth Volesky of Kelso of extra bases on a over the shoulder catch. Kelso added a run in the 3rd on an Allison RBI groundout. Tallahassee added 3 runs in the 3rd on a Cooper Smith RBI groundout, a bases loaded HBP and walk. Tallahassee ended the game in the 5th on a Jack Sturgis RBI single to make it 12-2.
Players of the Game
Kelso: Masyn Allison (LF) 1-2, 2 RBI’s
Tallahassee: Argene Lynn (LF) 2-3, Grand Slam HR, double, 2 runs and 4 RBI’s
Day 1 Game 4 Longview, WA (2) vs. Albany, MN (3)
Best game of the day in my honest opinion. Breyden Eiynck gave Albany the early lead with a sac fly in the 1st inning. The next 3 innings were led by excellent defense from both squads and great pitching from both starters Williamson and Thelen. Longview took advantage of a mishap from Albany and took the lead on a 2 RBI single from Sam Lindsey. Albany came right back to load the bases with 1 out in the 5th inning. They retook the lead with a pair of fielder choices from Zach Moritz and Avery Schmitz. Longview fought with everything they had and loaded the bases with 1 out but a K and flyout to RF ended the game with Albany winning 3-2.
Players of the Game
Longview: Jadon Williamson (P) 5 2/3 innings, 7 K’s
Albany: Carter Thelen (P) 6 innings, 4 K’s
