I love the 4th of July. It is far and away my favorite holiday. The weather is usually nice, BBQs, baseball and fireworks are all things I love and when you put them together it is just great. On a lot of holidays there is an emphasis on remembering the reason for the holiday and not as much the commercialism that has occurred.
For 4th of July though I don’t see as much of this and I think the reason is because the 4th of July is a day for us to celebrate what makes America great. Yes it is focused on the day that our country essentially began but I believe that celebrating today is more than just that.
This is one reason why I love going to baseball games on the 4th of July. Many baseball teams do an amazing job. I will even give credit to the best 4th of July ceremonies I’ve seen and that is the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.
Baseball is one of America’s purest and most historical pieces of our country. Honoring our country sometimes is about enjoying the amazing and fun aspects of our country and for me baseball is a key part of that. I know there are a lot of people out there who agree.
I’m not forgetting about the freedoms I have in this country. I’m not forgetting about the sacrifice that so many amazing men and women have given over the past 200+ years. I’m not making this holiday about the commercialism.
However, I am choosing to enjoy, honor and celebrate today by doing some of the amazing things that I love to do.
Thank you to everyone who has made this country great. That includes our military who sacrifice for our freedoms, the business owners who work hard to provide jobs, and to the American citizens who love this country and work so hard to keep this country great.
Thank you.
