Opening day is just one day in a very long season but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn some important things. In fact I would dare say we learned more then we could ever have hoped for about this upcoming season. (In case you don’t figure it out there might be some sarcasm in these lessons. So take them with a grain of salt. But why a grain of salt? That just doesn’t even sound good. Maybe a ballpark hot dog, a soda, and nachos. Now were talking.)
1. The Miami Marlins need to hire a 5 year old
This may sound like a crazy, and a bit out there type of thing to learn but at least a 5 year old would know to close the roof when it is raining. How does a stadium with a roof that closes have a rain delay? I could understand if the roof malfunctioned and it wouldn’t closed but this was just someone not realizing that ‘hey it’s raining, maybe I should close the roof.’ I don’t want to say this is a bad omen for Marlins fans because lets be honest as much as those few fans have endured they don’t need another bad omen.
2. The AL Cy Young is officially a two man race.
Felix Hernandez goes 7 innings, strikes out 10 and only allows one run. Sonny Gray tries to one up Felix by going 7 innings of no hit ball before giving up a hit in the 8th. I’m sure there are other pitchers in the AL, but really we should just give the Cy Young to one of these two guys and not worry about the argument later on in the season.
3. Boston should trade for Hamels RIGHT NOW
They just pounded him, made him look overrated and his asking price may not get any lower the rest of the year. Plus that win puts Boston into a tie for 1st place and the obvious World Series front runner. So give up the farm to get a pitcher you just pounded. I’m sure he will fair much better at Fenway park.
4. The Padres should do a fire sale now.
The Padres lost a game and we all know that once you start down the losing road you can never come back. Just look at the Cubs. They should sell, sell, sell and just dig into their deep farm system to rebuild. The Braves are an amazing example of looking towards the future and every team that lost yesterday should follow the Braves path.
5. The Braves are the prime example of rebuilding
Now that the Braves are in 1st place every team should see the moves they made and emulate them. Trade away your best players over one off season and then hope to be good in 3 to 4 years.
The rain delay in Miami cracked me up… thought it was a joke at first! Ahh the overreactions and speculations that happen after Opening Day! Relaxio people…
Happy Baseball Season!!
