Here we are the middle of August, still two months from the World Series, but playoff baseball is going on all across the country from Little League up through the College wood bat leagues.

Every day memories are being made as young men, young women, boys and girls are going to practice preparing for championship games, traveling across country to play and finally putting on the uniform and stepping on the field.

We all know about the Little League World Series. Heck even the regional championship games are on ESPN, so its hard to miss.  This is easily the most recognizable amateur baseball championship, but it isn’t the only one by far.

imageIn fact starting August 20th in Longview, WA, my home town, one of my favorite amateur baseball championship tournaments begins. The 13-15 year old Babe Ruth World Series.

Since 1990 my home town has hosted six World Series tournaments and each one has created a lifetime of memories for young players. Most of these players would never go on to play Major League Baseball, although I did get to watch a young Jimmy Rollins impress everyone even as a kid, but they will be able to talk about their experience at a World Series.

For eight days next week ten teams from around the United States will compete against each other vying for the same prize of being crowned Babe Ruth World Series Champions.  Players will give it their all and will get to experience a level of play that most will never experience.  And for a few short days a small baseball town in Washington will get to show off once again it’s love for the game and the individuals involved in the game.

Good luck to the ten teams competing this year.
