Today I made my way to McMinnville, OR where I was able to watch NCAA Division 3 #1 ranked Linfield take on rival and #18 ranked George Fox. I only made it to the second game of the double header but this game was a lot of fun to watch.
For the first four and a half innings these two teams were matching each other stride for stride but in the bottom of the fifth Linfield piled on 5 runs including back to back home runs. Initially the back to back home runs stood out as being the best plays I’ve seen this year until the top of the 8th inning.
With George Fox trying to put a rally together, 1st baseman Derek Dixon hit a shot that was a homerun right off the bat. However, Tim Wilson of Linfield had other ideas as he timed his jump perfectly, climbed the fence and stole the home run away.
I’ve seen home runs taken away on TV but I think this is the first one I’ve ever seen in person and it was an ESPN top plays worthy grab. I know it is early in the season but at this point that is my front runner for top play of the year that I have seen in person.
Great play Tim Wilson and congratulations to the Linfield baseball team for their sweep of George Fox today.
With a win today Linfield clinches the Northwest Conference crown.
