Day 1 Game 1 Waterford, CT (2) vs Broomall-Newtown, PA (5)
The first game of the World Series was a quick well played and well coached game for both teams. Broomall scored 1st on a walk to Chris Annas scoring Corey Woodcock in the bottom of the 2nd but Waterford came back in the top of the 3rd with a RBI single from Mike Rochetti. It stayed tied at 1-1 until the top of the 5th when Waterford scored a run on a balk. In the bottom of the 5th Broomall came right back with 3 runs, a 2 run double from Corey Woodcock and another double from Vince Sposato scoring 1. Waterford added 1 more in the 6th to take the lead 5-2 and that would be how the game ended.
Players of the Game:
Broomall: Corey Woodcock went 3-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI’s.
Waterford: Michael Rocchetti went 1-2 with a walk and a RBI.
Day 1 Game 2 Schererville, IN (7) vs. Tri-County (3)
Schererville started the game hot scoring 1 in the 1st, a single from Ben Nisle with Jarret Lopez scoring on an error. They scored another run in the 3rd, Nisle scored on a fielder’s choice from Parker Bryant. Then they scored 2 runs in the 4th and 5th innings. You got to hand to Tri-County they battled back scoring 2 runs in the 5th with a RBI single from Zach Smith and a RBI ground out from Tanner Sembera. Then they put up another run in the 6th making it 6-3. The only problem was it was a little too late.
Players of the Game:
Schererville: Ben Nisle went 4-5 and scored a run.
Tri-County: Ty Condel went 2-3.
Day 1 Game 3 Kelso, WA (3) vs. Lumber River, NC (4)
Lumber River started off hot scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning with a RBI double from JJ Oxendine. Kelso came back in the 2nd with a run from Terris Record on a double steal and another run in the 3rd, an RBI single from Kelvin Harrison. The game stayed tied until Kelso scored a run in the top of the 7th but Lumber River came right back with a run in the bottom of the 7th sending the games into extra frames. Kelso went 1-2-3 in the 8th and Lumber River went to work on winning the game on a close play at home. It was a great game by both teams and I think Kelso proved that even though they are a host team they deserved to be playing here.
Kelso: Yancy Bird pitched 7 IP, 11 Ks
Lumber River: Matt Strickland went 2-4 and pitched 6.1 IP, 9 Ks
Day 1 Game 4 Longview, WA (5) vs. Fargo, ND (3)
Longview didn’t waste time here, they put up 3 quick runs in the 1st on a bases clearing double from Jack Childers. Fargo came right back though with 2 of their own runs in the 1st and they didn’t even need a hit, both runs scored on wild pitches. Longview scored again in the 3rd on a RBI single from Dawson St. Jean scoring Andrew Walling. Fargo once again came right back in the 4th scoring a run making it 4-3. Longview added 1 more run in the 6th with some nice base running. Devin St. Jean got caught in rundown long enough to let his twin brother score. That made it 5-3 and that’s how it ended.
Players of the Game:
Longview: Jack Childers Jr. went 1-3 with a 3 run double
Fargo: Matt Thibert went 1-2 with a walk
