I’m really excited to have a chance to ask Brian Hunter a few questions. Brian played all or part of nine seasons in Major League Baseball between 1991 and 2000 for the Atlanta Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners, St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies. While he was primarily a first baseman, he also appeared in nearly 100 games as an outfielder.
Your homerun in the 1st inning of game 7 of the 1991 NLCS in Pittsburgh. What do you remember most about that homerun?
It was a 2-0 fastball and I was looking for that pitch. Put a good swing on it and hit a HR.
You played in 3 World Series with the Braves. What was playing in the Fall Classic like?
The first one was a big one. It was the worst to first series against the Twins. Went 7 games and is consider one of the best series ever.
The second one we went back the very next yr. Really thought we were going to win that one but the Blue Jays got us.
The third one not to many people thought we were going to make it but we did. But got worked by the Yankees.
What was playing for Bobby Cox like?
Playing for Bobby was the best. A players coach will always stick up for his players.
I’m going to name a few players. Please describe them.
1. Deion Sanders– Very funny and a great athlete best i ever been around.
2. Ron Gant– Good friend played on three teams with Ron. Looked up to him when i was in the minor leagues. Was like a big brother to me.
3. Sid Bream– My competition.
What are you doing now?
Just got done scouting for the last 8 yrs. Now coaching travel baseball in Cali.
Thanks for taking some time Brian.
