It is a rare thing when the event at a baseball game becomes larger than the game itself but every year the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes put on two events that just make the game of baseball seem to be nothing more than a side note. The first is the 4th of July games where the Volcanoes honor dozens of soldiers and families of soldiers. It is an event that is quite possibly the best tribute to our soldiers done in any baseball stadium in America.
The second event occurred last night for the 7th year in a row, and that is the Marion County Striking Out Meth Night. It is always fun to see kids at the ball park. With the goal being to educate kids about their health, as well as getting them a chance to see police officers in a fun setting so they feel comfortable with police officers, this event each year is a great success.
So that is why when you look at the photos from the game, there wont be very many of the game or the players but instead you will see many brave men and women who serve and protect their communities every day as well as hundreds of fans who came out to enjoy a great night at Volcanoes Stadium.
