NEWS 

The Twins have announced that 3B Miguel Sano will undergo surgery on his left leg on Nov. 13. He missed the final 6 weeks of the season after suffering a stress fracture in his leg.

The Red Sox have formally announced the addition of Hall of Famer Tony LaRussa to their baseball operations department.

Masahiro Tanaka will not opt out of his current contract. He will stay with the Yankees for the final 3 year/$67 million left on his contract.

 

TRANSACTIONS

Upton would have been one of the top free agents this off-season.

The Angels have signed OF Justin Upton to a 5 year/$106 million contract extension with a full no trade clause.

The Mariners have claimed INF Andrew Romine off of waivers from the Tigers.

The D-Backs picked up their club option on UT Daniel Descalso . He will make $2 million next year.

The A’s picked up their club option on 2B Jed Lowrie. He will make $6 million next year.

The Mets picked up their club option on SS Asdrubal Cabrera. He will make $8.5  million next year.

The Indians picked up their club option OF Michael Brantley. He will make $11 million next year.

Matt Wieters will exercise his player option to remain with the Nationals. He will make $10.5 million next year.

 

RUMORS

The Marlins have told other teams that they are open to offers for OF Giancarlo Stanton, 2B Dee Gordon and 3B Martin Prado.

The A’s are planning to dangle INF/DH Ryon Healy in trade talks this winter.

The Blue Jays had interest in OF Jay Bruce at the trade deadline and are likely to pursue him in free agency.

The Cardinals may be willing to offer “one of their best young pitchers” to get OF Giancarlo Stanton.
