For our preseason predictions I went through and picked my NL and AL Cy Young winners, MVPs, Rookie of the Year, Manager of the year and then at the very end of our predictions was an award no one wants and that is first manager fired.

MLB: Cincinnati Reds at Milwaukee BrewersI picked Ron Roenicke for one simple reason; the Brewers accomplished nothing this off season. I know that they accomplished nothing because they did nothing.

Yesterday the Brewers made my prediction look really good as they fired Roenicke for leading the Brewers to a horrible start.

I don’t know whether Roenicke is a good manager or a bad manager. I don’t know how much he knows about the game or strategy within a game. All I know is that he was walking into the season with a team that failed to do anything to get better during the offseason.

To me that is a simple message to any manager; get your bags packed your time is coming to an end.

This point is even more emphasized when you look at the other end of the spectrum and look at the San Diego Padres and how they did everything in their power to give Bud Black the best team they could this season.

Are the Padres a World Series favorite? Probably not, but the team they put on the field is a solid ball club and really for the first time since becoming the Padres manager Black has a full arsenal of players to use.

I don’t know who the next manager to be fired will be, what I do know is that managers can only do so much with the team that is given them.
