It has been a few weeks since we updated everyone on the results of the Mt Rushmore voting but we are back at it.  Kelly includes his thoughts on the voting along with every vote that was tallied.

Randy JohnsonArizona Diamondbacks

Randy Johnson (15 votes)

Luis Gonzalez (14 votes)

Matt Williams (11 votes)

Curt Schilling (9 votes)

Other receiving votes: Steve Finley (5 votes), Jay Bell (2 votes), Paul Goldschmidt (2 votes), Greg Colbrunn (1 vote), Justin Upton (1 vote), Craig Counsell (1 vote), Brandon Webb (1 vote), Bob Brenley (1 vote)

D-Backs were another tough one but with them winning a World Series made it a little bit easier. Not really any surprises here but I do think with some time Goldschmidt could end up replacing Matt Williams and maybe even Luis Gonzalez.

Todd HeltonColorado Rockies

Todd Helton (10 votes)

Larry Walker (10 votes)

Andres Galarraga (7 votes)

Troy Tulowitzki (5 votes)

Other receiving votes: Dante Bichette (4 votes), Vinny Castilla (2 votes), Carlos Gonzalez (1 vote), Justin Morneau (1 vote)

Like the D-Backs this was a tough one because they are a newer team but without the World Series title. Helton was the only for sure one I could think of. Tulo barely beat out Bichette and Morneau got a vote even though he had only been with the team this year.

Jackie Robinson (18 votes)

Sandy Koufax (17 votes)

Vin Scully (12 votes)

Tommy Lasorda (10 votes)

Other receiving votes: Duke Snider (6 votes), Don Drysdale (3 votes), Steve Garvey (2 votes), Orel Hershiser (2 votes), Branch Rickey (2 votes), Roy Campanella (2 votes), Maury Wills (1 vote), Clayton Kershaw (1 vote), Red Barber (1 vote)

Once I started doing the Mt. Rushmore series this is the one I was looking forward to the most. I really didn’t think the Know It All’s would pick 2 non-players in Scully and Lasorda but I’m glad they did. So many deserving players but we got it right. The interesting thing will be to see where Kershaw ends up on this list in 10 years or so.

Tony Gywnn (19 votes)

Trevor Hoffman (19 votes)

Dave Winfield (12 votes)

Randy Jones (7 votes)

Other receiving votes: Jerry Coleman (4 votes), Ray Kroc (3 votes), Steve Garvey (2 votes), Jerry Davis (1 vote), Ryan Klesko (1 vote), Dick Williams (1 vote), Adrian Gonzalez (1 vote)

After Gwynn and Hoffman this one got really tough. Would have been cool to see Coleman make the top 4 but really can’t argue with Winfield (a Hall of Famer) and Jones (a Cy Young winner).

Willie Mays (21 votes)

Willie McCovey (13 votes)

Mel Ott (12 votes)

Christy Mathewson (11 votes)

Other receiving votes: Juan Marichal (9 votes), Barry Bonds (8 votes), Orlando Cepeda (3 votes), John McGraw (3 votes), Carl Hubbell (2 votes), Will Clark (2 votes), Matt Williams (1 vote), Kevin Mitchell (1 vote)

Mays was an obvious choice but McCovey, Ott, Mathewson, Marichal and Bonds battled over the other 3 spots. Personally I voted for McCovey, Ott and Mathewson but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. I do believe as more time passes by Bonds will probably move up this list.
