It’s time for the 9 Inning Know It All March Baseball Movie Madness bracket style competition. I have been thinking about doing it for a while and it took some time to complete. I spent about 3 days in January picking out all the movies ranking them based on their ratings from IMDB. Then ranked them from 1 to 32 then matched them up into 2 brackets. The Connie Mack bracket and the John McGraw bracket, the 2 most winningest managers in MLB history. It will be a 3 week competition ending on March 22.
If you want to vote please go to the 9 Inning Know It All Facebook page, that’s where the voting will take place or if you want to vote here leave a comment with your picks. Also for the 1st round I will put up 2 matchups a day then after that it will be just 1 matchup per day. Please go check it out, we want to get as much input as possible. That way the results will come out better.
Now for my predictions…….I’m going to pick who I think will win, not who I will be voting for.
THE CONNIE MACK BRACKET
#1) 61* VS #16) The Scout
Just like in the NCAA tourney there will be no upsets in this spot.
#8) Trouble with the Curve VS #9) The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars
Trouble with the Curve wins due to not sure how many people have seen Bingo Long. (Sorry Norm)
#5) The Bad News Bears (Original) VS #12) Angels in the Outfield
Here’s my 1st upset. Angels in the Outfield wins a not so close one.
#4) Soul of the Game VS #13) Mr. Baseball
Another upset and another case of not sure how many people have seen Soul of the Game.
#6) Moneyball VS #11) Fever Pitch
Moneyball wins a blowout even though I like the movie Fever Pitch.
#3) The Natural VS #14) The Fan
The Natural and it’s a blowout.
#7) A League of Their Own VS #10) Cobb
League of Their Own wins and if you want to see anymore home plate collisions this may be the only place we can see it now.
#2) Pride of the Yankees VS #15) Mr. 3000
And the Yankees win!!!
THE JOHN McGRAW BRACKET
#1) The Sandlot VS #16) Summer Catch
Sandlot is a favorite in this tourney and will have no problem in Round 1.
#8) Bang the Drum Slowly VS #9) For Love of the Game
For Love of the Game got a low draw and will take it out on an old classic.
#5) Major League VS #12) Rookie of the Year
No upset in this 5/12 matchup. Major League wins.
#4) Eight Men Out VS #13) The Babe
A couple movies about the golden days of baseball. Shoeless Joe takes out The Babe.
#6) Bull Durham VS #11) Little Big League
I can see Bull Durham being a surprise in this bracket and will start by taking care of Little Big League.
#3) 42 vs #14) The Benchwarmers
42 all day long!
#7) The Rookie VS #10) Hard Ball
Nothing like a true story of a comeback tale, The Rookie wins.
#2) Field of Dreams VS #15) Major League II
Field of Dreams is my favorite to win this tourney which means Major League II makes an early exit.
